Tour Description

Supertour that will take you deep into the Peruvian Amazon jungle: rivers, lakes, animals, flora, native villages, tropical landscapes and forests, for which we will alternate hikes and boats; but before all this we will explore the Andean region of Cusco, with archaeological sites, high places of the mountain range and typical villages.

The tour starts in the city of Cusco visiting archaeological sites like Ninamarca and the typical village of Paucartambo; then we will head towards the Manu National Park where the first attraction will be the wonderful Cloud Forest. In the Amazon jungle we will travel on a motor boat to marvel at the huge variety of birds, felines, monkeys, tropical vegetation, rivers, lagoons and jungle landscapes, alternating with exciting hikes. In this tour we will visit lake Salvador, famous for its giant otters or river wolves and also the typical village of Boca Manu; among the great variety of wild animals, the tapir (the largest mammal of the jungle) and the typical jaguar of the Peruvian jungle stand out in this tour. It also includes a visit to the native village of Shintuya, where we can appreciate the famous Convent of the Dominicans. After 5 days of unsurpassed adventures we will return to the city of Cusco. Detailed Itinerary

    DAY 1: CUSCO - CLOUD FOREST - PILCOPATA

    To start our trip to the Manu National Park we will pick you up at your hotel between 5:30 am to 6:00 am; then we leave the city of Cusco to the village of Paucartambo, but before we will visit the archaeological zone of Ninamarca, where tombs of pre-Inca times are found; there will be a brief explanation by the professional guide. Arriving to Paucartambo we will visit the site museum and the colonial church. After approximately 4 hours of travel from the city of Cusco in our bus, we will reach the highest point of the tour, Acjanaco, located at 4.000 meters asl which is the entrance point to the Manu National Park; there we’re going have another general explanation about all the Manu’s biosphere reserve. The tour continues descending through the Cloud Forest where we will walk to look for flowers and typical birds. In the afternoon we arrive to our first comfortable lodge in the village of Pilcopata.

    DAY 2: PILCOPATA - ATALAYA - BOCA MANU

    After having our delicious breakfast we will continue for an hour by bus, making a stop to visit the animal rescue house and watching beautiful typical birds until arriving at Atalaya, where our motor boat awaits for us to go downstream on the Madre de Dios river until the village of Boca Manu, where we spend the second night in our lodging, located at 500 meters asl.

    Day 3: BOCA MANU - OTORONGO

    We will have our breakfast early to continue with the river route; we arrive at the Limonal control station where there will be the registration for the entrance to the Manu National Park Reserve and continue our tour on the Manu River, which it’s going to be very interesting because we will have the opportunity to find birds, jaguars, alligators, taricayas (turtles of the jungle), etc, therefore we must really pat attention and go slowly, until we reach our next accommodation in Otorongo, located at 400 meters asl.

    DAY 4: OTORONGO - SALVADOR -OTORONGO

    Our breakfast will be early to visit lake Salvador, with great expectations to find the beautiful river wolves or giant otters, which are animals in danger of extinction. At the lake we will sail for approximately 1 hour. Our lunch will be at the lodging and soon we leave for a hike of 3 to 4 hours approximately. And at night there will be a walk on which we can continue to explore the region’s flora and fauna. Then return to our accommodation to spend the night.

    DAY 5: OTORONGO - PAQUITZA - OTORONGO

    This day very early we will go to one of the mammalian spots of the Manu, in which we have the opportunity to see the jungle’s largest mammal, the tapir, an endangered species; the tapir comes very early to the spot in order to make its daily diet, since it is a vegetarian animal, it almost always eats green plants and fruits, therefore the minerals of the spot help eliminate toxins from its body. The tour continues and then we will have the opportunity to make another trek on a different route in search of monkeys, parrots, jaguars and other animals and birds typical of the jungle. In the afternoon it will be time to return to our accommodation in Otorongo.

    DAY 6: OTORONGO - BOCA MANU

    Another day deep in the jungle, in fact very happy after having enjoyed the vegetation and wildlife, but the charm still does not end as our boat will take us back to Boca Manu, but before there will be another opportunity to see more beautiful animals and birds. Finally in the afternoon we will arrive at our accommodation in Boca Manu.

    DAY 7: BOCA MANU - PAITITI ACCOMMODATION

    This day after our breakfast we continue our boat trip for 6 hours along the Alto Madre de Dios river until arriving at the native village of Shintuya, where we can visit the Convent of the Dominicans and then make a 2-hour excursion at the falls. Next we will enjoy a relaxing bath at the thermal waters near the community of Shintuya. In the afternoon we arrive at our lodging Paititi for the last night of the tour.

    DAY 8: PAITITI - CUSCO

    After enjoying all the wild flora and fauna of the Manu it will be time to get on board on our boat back to Atalaya, where we will be waiting for you with our transportation, which will take us back to Cusco, arriving between 5:30 to 6:00 pm, which will finish the tour.
